Appraisals

Since 1974, I have conducted marine vessel appraisals for tax purposes, IRS audits, estate settlements, divorce settlements, United States Custom Duty valuation appraisals, and charitable yacht donations.  I have worked with IRS agents and tax attorneys to formulate an approach and format for appraisal acceptance and use.  My field of expertise is the valuation breakdown for appraisals, which has been successfully tested in courts and IRS hearings.

I have appraised classic and antique vessels, yachts, super yachts, expedition yachts, trawlers, production vessels, and commercial vessels.

Professional Experience

Evaluation and inspection of major boat builder and manufacturing facilities at the following:  Cape Dory-Robinhood, Bertram Yachts, Hodgeon Brothers, Merritt Yachts, Buddy Davis, Alden, Able Yachts, Island Packet, Hinckley, Bristol, Delta Marine, Catalina (Morgan) , Hunter, Pearson Yachts,  Bruno Stillman, CE Ryder, Bayhead, Islander, Sea Ray, Boston Whaler, Shamrock, Shannon Yachts, Westship Yachts, Brownell, Palmer-Johnson Yachts, Lyman-Morse, Paceship, Little Harbor Powerboats, BlackWatch, Nauset, Block Island 40, Viking, Dyer, and numerous Maine boat builders.

Strong mechanical aptitude and training at OMC (Outboard Motor Corporation) and Mercruiser schools as well as parts and service management. Extensive experience in the operation, maintenance and repair of gas and diesel marine engines and outboard motors.  Continual ongoing training in boat building methods and materials.  I have attended numerous IBEX (International Boatbuilders Expositions), boat builder education seminars on boat building, boat builders’ standards, repair methods, new products and techniques, and the latest in safety codes.

General Experience

Over 60 years of wide, varied, and responsible marine industry experience in both power and sailboats from 13’ to 160’, A full time yacht/marine surveyor from 1985 to the present.  I have owned many power and sailboats from 13’ to 46’.  My experience consists of technical service, power and sail brokerage, yacht rigger, and floating/fixed dock designer
